Why is it that we continue to live with mediocrity in the learning institutions that we have influence over? Why is it that the circle continues to get more diluted and cloudy as the years go on?
On a recent trip back to the ‘fountainhead’ of our profession I was speaking with a group of students and was shocked when I asked this question “Please meet me on the street under the Beacon?” and got the response from a student, that was a year from graduation, “ What is the Beacon?” I replied, “The Beacon of Palmer College!” and they said, “I thought that was the school newspaper.” Now something has been terribly lost coming from the next statement. I turned to another student and said, “Well then how about meeting me next to the Palmer Spa?” And they quickly stated “Oh ok, I know exactly where that is.”
This is not a joking matter! Is it not absolutely a disgrace to our heritage and our foundation that the ones that should be MAKING SURE of the accuracy and diligence are passed on to those that we will one day call our colleagues? Knowing WHERE and WHAT the Beacon of Palmer College is has to be a basic, fundamental understanding in every student that walks the halls there.
Yet it confirmed to me, YET AGAIN, that there are those that do NOT take the time to button that second button on the shirt, or walk right by a penny on the street, or pass right over the details in our profession. And then by this simple negligence we now have an evolution of despairing students that soon will be D.C.’s that have no idea of what TRUE TIC even is. No wonder the magazines are full of Chiropractic plant extracts or Chiropractic Vitamins or now the best is Chiropractic Teeth Whitening systems for your office. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
The ones who teach and more so the ones who ‘police’ the teachers need to take RESPONSIBILITY and teach the basics, go back and test on the basics, then by doing this you will create a strong foundation for the betterment of our future TOR’s, so these antics of knowing where the Palmer spa is, yet not knowing where the Palmer Beacon is (or thinking it is simply a newspaper) can be alleviated and we can get back to learning what ChiropracTIC actually is and has stood for. Accept the challenge and don’t allow this continued circle to destruction, for it is only allowing the meds and allopaths more strength by slowly gaining there way in, because the ones who are at the gate are either asleep or getting weak by allowing such to be entered in. These actions are destroying what we should be representing for CHIROPRACTIC! Fight for it now or soon we will loose the right to say that we are the second largest health profession in the world!
